Medium green Covers with bright gold print on the Spine and a bright gold crown atop the Polish eagle on the Front Cover. 776 pages, with Notes on Polish pronunciation and a description of more Sienkiewicz novels at the back of the book. Very tight copy. Light beige paper. Translator: Curtin, Jeremiah. Contains: An Author's photograph located at the front of the book. Front Cover: A faint colour dulling at the right side (1" x 6") where water touched. Spine: An irregular water dulling. The gold print is a bit dull at the bottom. Back Cover: A ½" continuation of water dulling is at the right side, beside the Spine. In General: The paper's fine but stiff and wrinkled due to water. What saves the book is that it was well - made and is very tough to damage. The Title page is torn from, and along the Spine side for half the page. There's a "5" at the top right corner of the first page but whether this represents the original price, or what, I can't say. A name is written in ink and "1897" is on the other side of the page. Story: You just have to love these long, leisurely, historical novels they used to write! This is about the Cossack Revolt and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Sienkiewicz calls his book a Romance, but this is using the word in the old way, not as we know if today. He's a very good Writer if you like this kind of writing. He's the Author of Quo Vadis, amongst other books. This book is one of three he wrote on the topic.
