Translators: Sainsbury, Geoffrey and Gilbert, Stuart. I mention these as some of you have your favorites and, as you know, a good translation makes, or breaks, a book. $1.25 original price. 301 pages, plus book advertising at the back of the book. Very tight copy. Light beige paper, slightly darker around the edges (about 3/4"). The front cover has some milky-looking small bits which can be easily removed by carefully scraping with your fingernail. The spine has two creases where the book was first opened. There's a straight line crease at the bottom of the front cover, about 1/8" high. Paper is water rippled and it's made the book a bit stiff. The book contains two Simenon stories. Simenon likes to describe the psychology behind crime, and criminals, and usually builds a thorough case study. A good Author.

U.S. Signet/New American Library. 1954 First Edition. Mass Market Paperback. Fine Plus. Reading Copy.
Can't make out the price. 127 pages, plus book advertising at the back of the book. Mostly tight copy. Pale reddish colouring to the edging. Back and front covers have wrinkles and the spine is torn at the bottom third, front cover side, plus about 1/4" at the top. General edge wear. Back page is torn in half, but is all there. A bit loose around pages 10-11, as the glue is becoming brittle form age. Water stain at the top edge, extending inward about 1", from the slight change in paper, but it's not too bad. A man marries rich but has this fear of people finding out that he was once poor. I'll be darned if his bad Bro. doesn't escape from prison and suddenly turn up! Now how did that happen?

U.S. Ace Book. First Edition. Mass Market Paperback. Very Good.
No date, but the Copyright is 1969. $.40 original price. 175 pages, plus book advertising at the back of the book. Tight copy. Tan paper. Front Cover: Straight line crease beside the spine side, from book opening. A 1/4" tear at the top, spine side. Edge wear, mostly along the top and bottom edges and right edge, bottom. A triangular wrinkle/crease at the upper right corner, extending inward 1 1/4", and a small one at the bottom, right corner, 1/2". 3 semi-circular wrinkle/creases from fingers holding open the book and someone scribbbbbbbbbled, in ball point, at the very bottom of the cover. Spine: a partial line crease from book opening at the very bottom, about 2" long, plus a bit of edge wear at the top, and bottom edges and 1" of the right side. Back Cover: A few handling marks around the middle of the cover and a small, 1/4" + wrinkle/crease at the upper left corner. In General: Pages 156-7 have a couple of light beige marks. The inside, back cover, has a name written at the upper left side. Story: Five short stories of Maigret's sleuthing, which originally appeared in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. Maigret is a more sophisticated Parisian version of the old Savalas Kojak series.
