Masochism in Sex and Society (Orig.): Masochism in Modern Man, Reik, Dr. Theodor
1 Reik, Dr. Theodor Masochism in Sex and Society (Orig.): Masochism in Modern Man
U.S. Black Cat Book (Grove Press). 1962 #BD-13. First Black Cat (Grove Press) Edition. Mass Market Paperback. Gd. Plus. Water Touched.
$.95 is the original price. 439 pages plus a page of the Author's other books and an Index. Light beige paper. Tight binding.
Front Cover: A creased corner's at the top right and there's a line close to the right edge where obviously other books were on top of this one in the box.
Spine: A couple of faint lines from book opening. The Front Cover wasn't tightly bound when glued to the book so there's a little hump at the right side of the Spine. Nothing much, though.
Back Cover: Four faint vertical indents where something pressed into the Cover plus a couple of small handling marks.
In General: When water entered the book it dried nicely but there are the usual five wavy humps and some small ones on the inside of the book from it but the book's still good to read. Flip the pages a couple of times and it should loosen it up even more to get rid of most of the stiffness (which isn't very much, as is.) The first few pages at the front and back of the book show a water mark but it's reasonable and the outer edges still have what's left of the original (?)green, or blue colour.
Story: The Doctor's opinions as to causes and possible cures for what the Title says. You takes 'em as you sees 'em, folks. That's Humanity. We're all a bit strange, one way or another. (I presume the book's also meant for a bit of prurient interest but Publishers gotta live, too. And as usual, when you have a PhD or a Degree you're expected to publish so there are a million books he's written. Publish, or Perish is the University motto, I think. While some will deny it. 'Nuff said. 004698

Venus in Furs, Sacher-Masoch, Leopold
2 Sacher-Masoch, Leopold Venus in Furs
Canada. Travellers Pocket Library. #103. Unknown Edition. Mass Market Paperback. Fair Plus.
Both Covers: The Covers both have creases, indents and other handling marks.
Spine: It's amusing but the Spine's the only thing that has only a few minor marks.
In General: A name's written at the top of the first page and the first sixteen pages have the same Front Cover creases from its top right corner transferred to them. The inside of both Covers seem to have white (fading?) on them. Pages 153 to 160 are bound upside down and in reverse at the back of the book and I'm not even certain if those pages belong to this book. The first twelve pages have a 1" bit of tan colour at the bottom right edge. This seems to be a real "Collector's Item".
Story: Suggested to be a British publication in disguise it's a "Fly-By-Night" Publisher. The Titles were originally under pressure to be banned in Europe because we all know how Lilly-white some of the European countries are compared to naughty us. 004469
