Ernest Hemingway The Life and Death of a Man, Aronowitz, Alfred G. Hamill, Peter
3 Aronowitz, Alfred G. Hamill, Peter Ernest Hemingway The Life and Death of a Man
U.S. Lancer Books. 1961 #72-611. First Publication Anywhere. Mass Market Paperback. Fair Plus. Water Tchd.
$.50 is the original price. 222 pages plus a page of book Advertising. Medium beige paper Tight binding.
Front Cover: A large crease's at the bottom third of the Cover plus there are seven to eight smaller ones. Some edge wear's at the bottom.
Spine: The usual line from book opening plus a 1" tear and creases.
Back Cover: Creases are at the bottom, middle and top of the Cover.
In General: Whoever owned the book was careless in separating the pages and there are pieces missing at the bottom of some of them where they lightly stuck to one another. A pity the previous Owner didn't try to be more careful in separating them because it could have been done more neatly. There are also creased corners which're mostly at the bottom edge and especially at the back third of the book. Page fifty-one's torn. The previous Owner wrote quite a few Notes on the inside of the Front Cover and at the top of the next page and there are small notations throughout the book so I'm curious if the book was used as a Teaching reference. Nothing's missing from what's printed, though.
Story: As the Title says. I always remembered the quote in the movie about "the Sun aways rises" when the movie was first released and I wrote to Hemingway about it a month before he died but he never replied so it struck me when the book says that this was his favourite quotation.
And life goes on. 004582

Lost Worlds of 2001, The, Clarke, Arthur C.
8 Clarke, Arthur C. Lost Worlds of 2001, The
Canada/U.S. Signet (NAL) Book. #451-Y4929. First Signet (NAL ) Ed. Mass Market Paperback. Fine Minus.
January, 1972. $1.25 is the original price. Tight binding. 240 Pages. Light beige paper.
Front Cover: Mild wear's at the Spine side and bottom edge.
Back Cover: Three 1/8" to " wear spots plus a sight bit of wear's at the bottom and left edges. It's a black Cover so shows everything.
In General: A couple of spots of light beige are on the inside of the Covers but it's reasonable considering the book's age.
Story: The book's composed of Story rewrites by Clarke. As the movie based on the book was being made suggestions were made to him for changes or else he decided on them himself as the Story didn't quite read the way he wanted it to. Clarke also includes the original first Draft of the 2001 Story which he later decided to change before sending it to the Publishers. For serious Writers there appears to be a lot more to writing a good Story than we realize. 004475

Now Wait for Last Year, Dick, Philip K.
11 Dick, Philip K. Now Wait for Last Year
U.S. Manor Books, Inc. #532-12214. Second Manor Books Edition. Mass Market Paperback. Good.
May, 1974. $1.25 is the original price. 224 pages. Light beige paper. Tight binding. Yellow colour on the edges.
Front Cover: A 4" crease's 1" from the right edge and the bottom corner of that same side has three 1" - wide creases. The usual crease from book opening's at the Spine and there's a 1" vertical crease close to it.
Spine: It's difficult to make out but some water must have lightly touched here because the inside first twenty-five pages show the usual soft water channels before ending.
Back Cover: Various handling marks are on the surface and two large slanted creases are at the bottom, left corner. A " tear's at the bottom at the Spine side and a crease leads from it. A large corner crease's at the top of page 219 but I don't undertsand why anyone would stop reading there when it's only a couple of pages from the end of the Story. Strange one. Such is life.
Story: Travelling backward and forward in Time and using all of a person's existences in the various Time Streams he/she exists in as a separate Entity. It's an interesting idea but I don't see how it's really feasible. I understand and have always believed that Time Travel's possible, especially in light of the number of Time Streams that are out there Physicists now believe exist in our Universe but not in being able to physically assume the lifetime of the "You" who lives in that Time Stream. It's a separate "You." Osmosis of Soul in that particular case I'm not certain about...yet. I can see this in Reincarnation only. Or have I lost you?? It seems like a no-Brainer to me. 004658

12 Dickson, Gordon R. Outposter, The
U.S. Manor Books, Inc. 1973 #532-95249. First Manor Books, Inc. Edition. Mass Market Paperback. About V. Gd. Spine Water Tchd.
$.95 is the original price. 214 pages plus a brief Biography and Solicitation to read another book printed by Manor Books. Near white paper. Tight binding. Yellow colour on the edges.
Front Cover: Very small wear at the bottom edge and a slight indent's at the top right corner. Nothing much.
Spine: Three faint lines from book opening.
Back Cover: The usual fingernail indents from holding the book a bit too tightly. Possibly this is a gripping Story?
In General: Some pages at the front of the book have small water channels where water entered from the Spine side and five pages at the back have a couple of similar channels. They all dried reasonably well and the book's still tight. I lowered the asking price because of this but that's life. I reglued the bottom 1" of the Spine as it was torn.
Story: Us versus the Aliens. 004643

Night of the Saucers, Eando Binder
13 Eando Binder Night of the Saucers
U.K. A Five Star Paperback. 1972 # ?. First Five Star Paperback Edition. Mass Market Paperback. About Good. Water Tchd.
Twenty-five Pence is the suggested price. 156 pages plus book advertising. Light orange colour on the top edge only. Tight binding.
Front Cover: A couple of book-length creases are beside the Spine side and a small bit of Cover surface is missing at the Spine side which you can probably see on the Cover Scan.
Spine: Light wear's at both the left and right edges.
Back Cover: A few beige spots are at the left edge and some light wear's at the Spine side. A " corner crease's at the bottom, a larger one's at the top and there are some indents on the Cover.
In General: A few pages at the top of the book have a slight bend to them and a couple of pages have a small tear and scrunge mark at the bottom. Pages 149 - 152 have water ripples going across the bottom which caused dark browning at that spot. I tried removing this and managed to get quite a bit out but the marks are stil there, atough it's a bit better. I'm always experimenting in trying to restore damaged books and this was the first time I tried removing this sort of thing. I reduced the price of the book because of the water marks but the book's still quite readable and outside of the pages mentioned is in good condition. It aways annoys me when I see a damaged book as I respect the printed page.
Story: The usual Story about Aliens wanting to destroy Earth except now that the Saucers are actualy showing themselves....who knows what can happen anymore that things have gotten real for all of us on Earth. I mean, seriously. 004493

U.S. Dell Pub.Co.,Inc. First Dell Edition. Mass Market Paperback. About Good. Water Tchd.
October. 1965. $.60 is the original price. 288 pages plus book Advertising. Light medium beige paper. Tight binding but water touched at the bottom 3". I separated the pages at the edges where they pressed together. Green colour on the edges except for a couple of white spots at the bottom right edge.
Front Cover: A couple of light handling marks.
In General: The inside of both Covers is turning light beige. The pages were stuck together at the very edge but I separated them. I was careless with the first three pages, though, and they tore slightly for which I am sorry about my being so clumsy. I reduced the price to compensate as this book's a true First edition and was in really good condition. A great pity about the water.
Story: Thirteen short Science fiction Stories. 004577

Super Science Stories (Orig.: Teen - Age Super Science Stories), Elam, Richard M.
17 Elam, Richard M. Super Science Stories (Orig.: Teen - Age Super Science Stories)
Lantern Press (Pocket Books) Edition. #50526. First Lantern Press (Pocket Books) Ed. Mass Market Paperback. About Good. Water Tchd.
$.50 is the original price. February, 1967. 231 Pages plus a page of Advertising. Tight binding. Close to white paper.
Front Cover: Handled, with a few very small bits of Cover surface missing at the Spine and bottom of the right edge.
Spine: A " is missing at the top and the Spine's creased and torn in places. Again, it's been handled.
Back Cover: A double crease's at the top and bottom corners and it's torn at the Spine side. A few scratches and you can see the faint outlines of the carton the book was kept in before I got to it but it's in better condition than the Front Cover.
In General: The pages have small creases or upturned corners which I'll straighten out. It left several water channels where water entered the book at page seventy so pages around them are showing these marks. These channel marks gradually end and become very small so that between pages thirty-five and 120 the paper's in decent condition. The book's quite flexible and must have good quality paper because nothing's turning beige. A previous Owner, or Store wrote a number in felt marker at the top of the inside of the Front Cover and someone used a pair of material cutting sheers which left a sort of jagged edge at the bottom of one page at the beginning of the book.
Story: Nine short Stories. This particular edition seems scarce compared to other editions. 004500

18 Gallagher, Thomas X-Craft Raid, The
U.S. Pinnacle Books. #523-00127. First Pinnacle Books Edition. Mass Market Paperback. Fine. Mfg. Defect to Paper.
October, 1972. $.95 is the original price. 188 pages which contain two pages at the end showing the attack on The Tirpitz. Light beige paper. Tight binding. Yellow on the edges. Note: The book's in wonderful condition but during manufacturing pages ninety-seven to 128 were slightly pushed together at the top third so there's a sort of wrinkle on these pages. If I try to mske them flat then they'll stick above the top edge so I'm leaving them alone.
Story: During World War 2 The Tirpitz was a royal pain in th rear for the British. It was so big and so well constructed that it was impossible to sink the thing. The Graf Spee and the Bismark were two other German ships that caused the British much grief. They had good gunnery people and their reach was farther than the British but flukey things helped to eventually disable them. The Nazis came very close to winning the war but we owe our present Space program to them, amongst other things. 004995

In General: A name's stamped on the inside of both Covers and A Library Number's taped to the bottom of the Spine. A " tear's at the bottom of the left Spine edge.
Story: These are the English Green Berets not the American copies. I browsed a bit of the book and it's well written, following the Berets through World War 2. 004478

U.S. Pyramid Books. #NS-101. Second Revised Pyramid Bks. Ed. Mass Market Paperback. About Fine.
November, 1966. $.95 is the original price. 350 pages with many photos. An Appendix lists the many hospitals the Shriners opened and there's a listing of what the names mean in English. Winnipeg's, for example, is/was called Khartoum Temple but I believe it's been donated to the local Health Science Children's Hospital and forms a wing. White paper. Tight binding. Orange on the edges.
In General: Wear on the edges. The Back Cover has a very small 1/8" crease at the bottom, left and a light triangular crease's at the top left corner. The first three pages have a tiny spot of (?)blood at the bottom which also is very lightly on the inside of the Front Cover. The first page has a small piece clipped. Possibly there was a price, or some such there. 004968
