Making a Nation, The U.S. And Its People, Boydston, Jeanne, et al.
2 Boydston, Jeanne, et al. Making a Nation, The U.S. And Its People
Pearson (Prentice Hall) 2004 13-111454-9. (?) First Combined Edition. Large Soft Cover (9" x 6"). About Fine.
768 pages with an Appendix, Bibliography. Photo Credits and an Index. A list of Maps are at the front of the volume. White glossy paper. Tight binding. Contains: A CD at the back of the book. It's a well put together book but how accurate it is I'm not certain as it's an American publication about America and it's always necessary to have other books about the same subject which are written in other countries to act as a comparison. Sorry, but this is how one does History as books tend to be biased, depending on the Authors. Go to University and you'll find this out for yourself. No flag thumpers, please. Note: It's a very heavy book and will require extra postage. As the saying goes, it's "weighty matter" to think about. 004839

I was recently reading an Article by some Russian Scientists who say that their own supply comes from many miles beneath the surface and they have reason to believe that oil is actually constantly being formed at those great depths and it's a "renewable" source. But no one bothers to check it out, of course. Of course. 004875

Story: The bungled attempt by U.S. - trained Cuban Exiles to invade Cuba and take the country back from Castro. Has the U.S. considered that the Cubans might not want them back? A lot of the ones who originally fled Cuba were living off the backs of poor people in Cuba and didn't really give a damn about anything except their own rich living standards. There's bad stuff still going on in Cuba what with their spying on the people, etc., but at least now there's Schooling and Medical care with well-trained Medical people. It's been a long series of bad U.S.Policy decisions all over the world. 004404

Spine: Some wrinkles.
Story: The usual thing where our U.S. friends decide to take over Canada to get our oil. Rohmer had success with his first Best Seller and then started to crank out a couple of Potboilers to cash in. But this is a very nice copy despite the little bit of indenting on the Front Cover. I'm puzzled as the writing on the last page doesn't seem to be complete. Possibly he figured he could write a follow-up to this book and make even more money. 004362

Story: A government cover-up about an accidental release of a deadly Virus over a small U.S. town. It could happen with what's going on today. No longer fiction. I don't trust the government that much to tell the truth anymore. FEMA's not just about natural disasters, you know. 004857

First on the Moon, Sutton, Jeff
19 Sutton, Jeff First on the Moon
U.S. Ace Books Inc. 1958 #F-222. First Ace Book Edition. Mass Market Paperback. Good.
$.40 is the original price. Tight binding. 192 Pages. Medium beige paper. Yellow colour on the edges.
Front Cover: The usual crease by the Spine from book opening and several indents. Some wear's at the edges.
Spine: A couple of light creases from book opening and a " bit of a tear's at the bottom edge.
Four vertical indents and some kind of round indents are at the top of the left corner for 1".
In General: The indents mentioned as being on the top of the left side of the Back Cover corner continue at the same spot for a number of pages. They also start at Page seventy-one and continue to the back of the book. Could they be teeth marks?? Possibly a little kid's work. A "+ beige mark's at the bottom of the page from Page seven to Page ten. It looks more like a glue spot rather than a water drop.
Story: The Russians are trying to prevent the U.S. from reaching the Moon and claiming it as theirs. I figure that in quite a few instances Science fiction predicts possible Future outcomes before they happen which's one reason to read Science fiction so a person gets to thinking about things. 004464

Giai Phong! The Fall and Liberation of Saigon, Terzani, Tiziano
20 Terzani, Tiziano Giai Phong! The Fall and Liberation of Saigon
U.S. Ballantine Books, Inc. #345-25622-0. First Ballantine Books Edition. Mass Market Paperback. Very Good Plus.
May, 1977. $2.25 is the original price. 334 pages which includes a Glossary and Index. Tight binding. Contains: A few Maps and quite a few black-and-white photos. Translator: Shepley, John.
Story: As the Title says. "Uncle Ho" admired the Americans and their struggle to be independant from England so he wrote to the White House to ask for American help in getting the French to leave his country as they'd originally claimed it as a Colony. But the American government took the side of the French against him because Ho had Communist leanings and we all know how this turned out. It was understandable as the French had supported the Americans in their original War of Independence.
When the Japanese invaded various countries they tried to get the people on their side by convincing them how badly they'd been used by the countries that had controlled them as Colonies and how easy it was to defeat them in battle. The Japanese were much worse and brutal than the old Rulers but the idea of freedom remained in the heads of the people after the Japanese were defeated. All it took was to get the right people to start the ball rolling and Uncle Ho was the man. The age of Imperialist Power was over. When asked the people sometimes say that they might have corrupt governments but the government's are from themselves and not foreigners. It's sad that the U.S. didn't understand this and had to blunder into this war as they could have avoided it, Bad Advise they've always been good at. Stupid Politicians. They're so dumb but think they're so clever. 004407
