Very tight binding. Light beige paper. Red colour to the edging. Front Cover: A slight bend, beside the spine, from book opening. A triangular, light wrinkle/creased corner at the bottom, right edge (extending inward 1/2"). A 1/8" upturn at the top, right corner. Some very light bits of edge wear, mostly at the bottom, and right edges, here-and-there. Spine: A horizontal tear, about 3" from the bottom edge, plus a fine, white line crease from book opening, at the left edge. Back Cover: A fairly heavy triangular wrinkle/crease at the top, left corner (extending inward 3/4"). 4-5 fingernail indents at the upper portion, middle, from book opening, plus two 1" wrinkle/crease lines at the bottom, and left edges. Some light edge wear at the bottom edge. Story: 6 short stories which were originally published in Galaxy Science Fiction Magazine, a top magazine for Science Fiction.

Spine: The top, and bottom, have torn sides where they join to the Front and/or Back covers. Torn 1" on the left (top), and 1/2" on the right (bottom).
In General: The bottom, right corner, has a very slight upturn for the first 63 pages. The bottom is torn 1" on the right side. There's a light roll and stiffness to the paper due to water. The last 30 pages at the top and bottom, back of the book, show water lines, decreasing as one goes inward.
Story: Bates, Gallico, Victor Canning, and other Authors, plus a series of Romantic cartoon drawings by the French cartoonist, Raymond Peynet.

Spine: A bit crinkled from wear and torn at the top and bottom (3/4"). A small, 1/4" piece is missing from the bottom.
In General: The Front and Back Covers are dull newsprint type, not the glossy ones of later years. I believe England had a currency shortage which kept things a bit austere for a few years, which precluded buying quality newsprint.
This issue was mailed to Canada from England and has the original address and stamp on the back, dated 1945. 11/2 Pennies to mail a book Overseas in those days! A stitched binding. The upper right corner is bent (1/2" inward).

Spine: Torn at the bottom (11/4") and has a small, 1/4" piece missing.
In General: Water touched the back pages, leaving its water mark along the top (1/4") and upper left side ( 1/2" x 21/2"), extending inward from the Back Cover to about page 62, becoming lighter and lighter. The same, from the Front Cover, inward, along the upper edges. The upper right corner has an upward lift, extending inward, in a triangular pattern, about 1/4" x 1". The bottom corner has an upward tilt (about 1/4 to 3/4" in size) where the book possibly was dropped (?) Story: Bradbury, Steinbeck, Burnett, and other Authors. Burnett wrote Little Caesar, amongst others. I believe ( as I haven't read it) it's possibly this story which was made into a movie, with Edward G. Robinson.

In General: The paper's a bit stiff at the back where water touched the outer edges (about 1/2") as one can see what appears to be the mark. This extends inward for about 40 pages, becoming smaller and smaller, lighter and lighter. A similiar triangular spot is at the upper right corner, (extending inward, from the Front Cover, to about 1/4", plus). The inside of the Front and Back Covers are tan, in places.

There's also a 2 1/2" long x 1/4" crease at the top, left edge, which extends inward for 16 pages, becoming smaller as one goes into the book. Spine: A slight bit of wrinkling from manufacturing. Front Cover: A horizontal line, across the upper third, probably from another book pressing on it at this spot, plus a small (1/4") indent at the bottom, near the spine. Spine: A 1/4" piece of the cover is missing at the top edge and there's a 3/4" tear at the bottom, right edge. The top edge is reddish-pinkish from ink bleed, probably from another pocket book as coloured edges aren't a feature of Argosy. A straight line, from book opening, plus a little nuggie, at the middle, right edge, where a book edge probably pressed into it (This would explain the straight line, I previously mentioned and the coloured edge. Such detective work!) In General: The paper's a bit stiff, because of water coarsening the paper fiber. Otherwise, as mentioned, for condition. Story: Short stories by De la Mare, Gallico, Bradbury, Bennett, et al.

Doubleday & Co. (Garden City). Doubleday Book Club Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good Minus. No publication date is mentioned. Beige binding, with green print on the spine. 312 pages. Very tight binding. The right edge is rough cut. Front Cover: A bumped corner (1/4" deep) at the bottom, right, plus (?) a water stain at the bottom edge (3/4" deep, the width of the cover.) Spine: The spine is darkened and the top, and bottom edges (about 1/2" deep) appear browned, as if from smoke. In General: 2 dirty fingernail marks are at the bottom of the first page and 3 at the bottom of the inside of the Back Cover. Story: Five short stories which are taken from Galaxy Magazine, and edited by H.L. Gold, who was its Editor. Galaxy was a top notch digest science fiction magazine, with very good covers and stories.
