1 Wallace, Lew. Prince of India, The, or Why Constantinople Fell - Volume 1
Canada. William Briggs 1893 Second William Briggs Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good Plus.
Navy blue Covers with gold print on the edge and Cover plus a Turkish silver Crescent and a wine - coloured Rosary, Cross and Maltese Cross suspended from it. 502 pages. Medium beige paper, slightly darker at the edges (1").
Front Cover: Water touched in a "U" pattern at the bottom and also half - way up on the Spine side, but not quite as much as on the right edge. There's also a 1½" - high bit at the bottom edge. A very small bit of colour loss is at the bottom edge.
Spine: Water travelled about 1" and there are a few spots, here-and-there, which, I believe, are just surface spotting, but enough to remove a bit of book colour, leaving it a light blue at the bottom edge.
Back Cover: Half the Cover (from the bottom, up) was touched by water. There's a water outline and a small bit of colour loss. There are numerous very sharp, small (1" x 1/32") uplifting cloth slivers as this was a very well bound/made book.
In General: The interior paper was just water - touched at the left and right edges but the paper's good quality so only slight rolls are there.
Story: This is historical fiction about the eventual fall of Constantinople to the Muslims. Constantinople was once considered to be the New Rome as the then Roman Emperor had decided to move the capital of The Roman Empire to Constantinople, despite much opposition. He built a huge wall around it but it eventualy was defeated when gunpowder came into use.
Wallace also wrote Ben Hur, amongst other books. Recommended, if you like historical fiction and long novels. Or if you're just into reading good books. 000702
