3 Michener, James A. Hawaii
U.S. Bantam Books. 1966 #D3151-1. Second New Bantam Edition. Mass Market Paperback. Good. Water Touched.
U.S. #D3151-1. September, 1966. $1.65 is the original price. 1130 pages, plus a Geneological list of the book's characters (at the back of the book). Tight binding, except for the last pages at the back of the book which have a slight pending separation (2") at the bottom, Spine edge. Light beige paper, slightly darker at the edges (1/2").
Front Cover: Both corners have triangular wrinkle/creases (extending inward at the top for 1/2" and at the bottom, for 1/4"). A 4" triangular crease is located about mid-way down the right edge (extending upward, at a slant, to the middle of the top edge). Scotch taping at the top and bottom edges and along the Spine (extending inward 1/4" at the Spine and 1/2" x 1 1/2" long at the bottom edge).
Spine: A wrinkle/crease line down the middle from book opening and a bit of edge wear is at the top and bottom edges. Scotch taping at the left, and right edges (1/4" wide).
Back Cover: Water touched, which left pages 917, to the end of the book with slightly rolled paper (extending inward 3" up, from the bottom edge and the same from the right edge). From page 396, onward, there's a slight roll to the paper at the right edge (extending inward 1") but it's minor. A triangular crease is at the right and bottom edges (extending inward 1/2"). Scotch taping used to extend about 3" long at the top edge but most of it has fallen off with age. Just the outline remains.
In General: The creased top, right corner, extends inward for a few pages at the same spot. The book opens a bit easily where the photos start. A couple of pages have triangular corner folds. A name is printed at the top of the first page.
Story: Fiction, but well written, about Hawaii, white men, Religion, etc. There's a movie tie-in with colour photos from the movie. 001188

4 Michener, James A. Hawaii
U.S. A Bantam Book. 1966 #D3151-1. First New Bantam Edition. Mass Market Paperback. Very Good MInus. Water Tchd.
U.S. #D3151-1. September, 1966. $1.65 is the original price. 1130 pages, plus Geneological Charts of the characters in the story and a very short Biography of the Author, all at the back of the book. Contains: Colour movie photos.
Front Cover: A 1" tear is at the bottom, left, beside the Spine edge. Some creasing is at the bottom edge (extending upward, 3" x 4" in width). There are also some scratches which appear to be centered at a point at the middle of the Cover, plus a couple of scratches are at the top, left side.
Spine: A line crease down the middle from book opening, plus a few wrinkle/crease lines at the bottom (about 1/2" high). And, of course, the tear at the right side, which I mentioned.
Back Cover: An indent is at the middle, top edge, which caused a fine, horizontal wrinkle/crease line (1/4" high x 4" long).
In General: The first 70 pages have a water mark, some indents and puckering at the bottom third of the book (extending across most of the bottom edge x 1 1/2" high), and along the bottom, right edge (3" upward x 1 1/2" wide). This mark is also evident on the back of the Front Cover. The colour photos from the movie are loose, and the first page of them is missing. Page 183 has a 1" tear at the bottom, right edge. Pages 691 and 997 have smaller tears at the edge.
Story: White farmers and Missionaries who exploit Hawaii to the detriment of the locals. The colour photos are from the movie, as is the Front Cover. A good movie, but the book I haven't read. 001278
